How we score cities
Every city on Verdikt gets a Muslim Travel Score from 0–100, built from six independently-scored dimensions. The composite score answers one question: “Is this city genuinely good for someone like me?”
The six dimensions
Availability and variety of halal food, certification quality (fully certified vs Muslim-owned vs pork-free), price range across budgets, and how easy halal options are to find outside tourist zones.
Mosque density and accessibility, prayer room availability in airports, malls and tourist sites, wudu facilities, and how easy it is to keep the five daily prayers while sightseeing.
General traveler safety plus — importantly — safety and comfort for visibly Muslim travelers: wearing hijab, praying in public, dressing modestly. A city can be safe in general and still score lower here.
Size and visibility of the local Muslim community, Islamic heritage and history, community institutions, and how connected a visiting Muslim can feel.
How comfortable it is to dress modestly in public spaces, beaches, pools and restaurants — social attitudes, dress norms, and availability of modest-friendly facilities.
What the city is like during Ramadan: iftar atmosphere, suhoor options, what closes and what comes alive, tarawih access, and whether fasting travelers are understood.
Reading the score
Excellent — this dimension is a strength. You can travel without planning around it.
Workable — good options exist but you'll want to research ahead.
Challenging — expect real friction. The verdict explains exactly what to prepare for.
Editorial independence
Scores are editorial judgments based on research, community reports from Muslim travelers, and on-the-ground data — halal restaurant density, mosque counts, prayer facility coverage. They are never sponsored, never influenced by advertisers or tourism boards, and never adjusted for commercial reasons. When a city is mediocre for Muslim travelers, its score says so — that's the whole point.
